Best Practices

Channel Organization

  1. Use Categories - Group related channels together
  2. Clear Naming - Use descriptive, consistent names
  3. Archive Unused - Delete or hide inactive channels
  4. Permission Overrides - Set category permissions, inherit to channels

Role Management

  1. Least Privilege - Grant only necessary permissions
  2. Role Hierarchy - Place bot role high enough to moderate
  3. Color Coding - Use colors to identify role types
  4. Descriptive Names - Make role purposes clear

Security

  1. Administrator Permission - Grant sparingly (bypasses all permissions)
  2. Audit Changes - Review role/channel changes in Discord audit log
  3. Backup Configuration - Use Data Export feature before major changes
  4. Test Changes - Verify permissions work as intended

Limitations

What You Can Do

  • Create, edit, delete channels (all types)
  • Create, edit, delete roles
  • Reorder channels and roles
  • Configure all standard permissions
  • Set channel topics, slowmode, bitrate, etc.

What You Cannot Do

  • Edit managed roles (bot integration roles)
  • Modify the @everyone role (use Discord client)
  • Set advanced permission overrides per-user/role on channels (coming soon)
  • Create threads or forum posts
  • Modify server verification level or content filter

Troubleshooting

"Permission Denied" errors

Cause: Bot lacks necessary permissions in Discord

Solution:

  1. Check bot has Manage Channels permission
  2. Check bot has Manage Roles permission
  3. Verify bot's role is high enough in hierarchy

Changes not appearing in Discord

Cause: Sync delay or cache issue

Solution:

  1. Refresh Discord client
  2. Wait 10-30 seconds for sync
  3. Check dashboard for error messages

Cannot delete channel

Cause: System channels or insufficient permissions

Solution:

  1. Cannot delete rules/community channels while enabled
  2. Check bot permissions
  3. Verify you have Manage Server permission

Role reordering fails

Cause: Hierarchy restrictions

Solution:

  1. Ensure bot's role is higher than target roles
  2. You cannot move roles above your highest role
  3. Managed roles cannot be reordered

Advanced Tips

Bulk Channel Creation

Create multiple channels quickly:

  1. Plan your channel structure
  2. Create category first
  3. Create channels in category
  4. Channels automatically inherit category permissions

Role Templates

Set up role "templates" for common permission sets:

  1. Create base roles (Moderator, VIP, etc.)
  2. Copy permission configurations
  3. Adjust per-role as needed

Permission Inheritance

Channels inherit permissions from categories:

  1. Set permissions on category
  2. Channels use category permissions by default
  3. Override only when necessary

  • Data Export - Backup your server configuration before major changes
  • Dashboard Analytics - Track server activity across channels
  • Extension System - Automate channel/role management with custom code
